LPIC-2: Linux Network Professional Certification Study Guide

LPIC is a distribution-neutral Linux based certification. If you’re studying towards LPIC-2, then you may find this page helpful.

A Brief Introduction to LPIC-2

LPIC-2 is an Advanced Level Linux Certification. You must have an active LPIC-1 certification to receive LPIC-2 certification, but the LPIC-1 and LPIC-2 exams may be taken in any order. To pass LPIC-2 you should be able to:

  1. Administer a small to medium-sized site.
  2. Plan, implement, maintain, keep consistent, secure, and troubleshoot a small mixed (MS, Linux) network:
    1. LAN server (Samba, NFS, DNS, DHCP, client management),
    2. Internet Gateway (firewall, VPN, SSH, web cache/proxy, mail),
    3. Internet Server (web server and reverse proxy, FTP server).
  3. Supervise assistants.
  4. Advise management on automation and purchases.

This page is based on the newest (at the time of writing) version 4.0 of the LPIC-2 exams that were revisioned in November 2013.

Self-study Material

  1. LPIC-2 Exam Prep free material (part of the October 2013 objectives) can be found on here. Direct link to PDF.
  2. LPIC-2 Linux Professional Institute Certification Study Guide by Roderick W. Smith, 654 pages, May 2011.
  3. Manual pages, info pages, web search engines etc.
  4. Virtual machine applications (i.e. VirtualBox). VirtualBox snapshots feature is amazing, use it.

Note: Roderick’s book is outdated! It covers the old (version 3.0) LPIC-2 objectives. Use it in conjunction with some other study material only.

I suggest to set up a home lab and get your hands on.
